Adopt Ema

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

Ema – our sweet senior dog is searching for her happy ending → Breed: mixed breed → Gender: female → Born: 04/2014 → Size / Weight: 50 cm / 25 kg → Neutered: yes → Vaccinated: yes → Identification: Microchip → Compatible with: male dogs and female dogs → Incompatible with: N/A → Sponsorships possible: yes Description: Ema – our charming senior dog – has been with us for many years. So long that sometimes we feel like she's always been here. And yet, Ema is anything but "old" in her mind: she is cheerful, playful, and full of life. For many years, she was able to stay here with her mom. Since her mom is no longer around, it’s clear how much Ema misses a real home. Let's face it: as much as we try here, a shelter is not the place for an older lady. No cozy dog bed, no quiet corner, no garden where she can simply enjoy the sun – instead, she faces wind, rain, summer heat, and few places to retreat. Senior dogs especially need warmth, security, peace, and, of course, love. Ema doesn't even realize she's a grandma. She thinks she's still in pretty good shape! Sure, her figure is more on the "grandma with a bit of extra padding" side, but that can be managed with leisurely walks and tasty senior food. The key is that the walks are relaxed – time to sniff around, look around, and find small joys along the way.

About Ema

What life with Ema looks like

Ema is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ema, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ema?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ema on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ema if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ema already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ema isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ema and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
