Emil

Male · Adult · 8 years

This cute Appenzeller-Mix was born in 2018 and came to us, the animal shelter Ludwigshafen e.V., via the veterinary office. Now he is looking for people who want to show him the beautiful sides of dog life and give him a loving home. The affable male dog is an active companion who enjoys long walks and explores his surroundings attentively. For his age, he is fit and looks forward to shared activities with his people. He already masters the basics of the dog ABC well. However, his leash behavior and his attention to people – especially in stimulating situations – still need to be worked on. With a bit of patience, consistency, and the right guidance, he has good prerequisites for this. He gets along well with female dogs, and with male dogs, it depends on the sympathy. We can imagine larger, sensible children in his new home. Whether he can live with cats would need to be tested beforehand. We are looking for people who enjoy having an intelligent and character-strong dog and who will give him the time to settle into his new environment. If you are searching for a loyal companion for shared adventures, you should definitely meet this wonderful Appenzeller-Mix. Please fill out the interested parties form under "dog inquiry" to arrange a first meeting. This way, all relevant information for a potential match will be at hand for us.

About Emil

What life with Emil looks like

Emil is a adult dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
