Emma & Emmely

Female · Adult · 8 years

The two lovely tortoiseshell ladies aren't to blame for ending up in the animal shelter— they could no longer be cared for in their former home. They’ve been with us for some time now, and it’s finally time for them to introduce themselves. Emma and Emmely are both around eight years old, at the prime of their lives, and no longer particularly active or restless. You can easily tell them apart, both visually and in terms of personality. Usually, it doesn’t take more than a minute before Emma—the darker of the two—emerges and seeks contact. She happily walks around us, loves being petted, and thrives on attention. Still, she remains cautious; sometimes she gets startled and retreats. Fortunately, she doesn’t hold grudges for long. If you approach her calmly and with just a bit of patience, she’ll open up and become affectionate. Perhaps in their new home, with consistent caregivers, she’ll learn to build even more trust. Emmely, by contrast, is much more reserved. Most of the day, she stays hidden in a safe spot, and when we do spot her there, she greets us with a hiss. As a result, she looks rather apprehensive even in photos. She doesn’t mean any harm—she simply needs more time and wants to take the first step herself. She’s more reserved and takes considerably longer than Emma to emerge from her shell. Of course, this could also be due to her situation at the shelter. As long as Emma and Emmely get to set the pace, they’re very easygoing and would certainly make wonderful housemates. We’ll continue observing how closely they really bond with each other; perhaps an individual placement might even be an option. To our knowledge, these feline ladies have lived indoors so far. At the shelter, they do have access to an outdoor area, though they rarely use it. Of course, we don’t know whether they’re afraid of all the noises or simply lack the motivation. Therefore, we’re placing them in indoor housing with secure outdoor access, since they probably don’t need free-roaming—and might not even be able to handle it.

About Emma & Emmely

What life with Emma & Emmely looks like

Emma & Emmely is a adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emma & Emmely, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emma & Emmely?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emma & Emmely on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emma & Emmely if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emma & Emmely already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emma & Emmely isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emma & Emmely and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
