Adopt Emma

Mixed Breed · Female

History/Description Emma is likely one of the dogs whose personality has changed the most within the animal shelter. At first, it was impossible to touch her (as seen in the video, she ran away when someone tried to pet her), but that was a long time ago. After several years with us, she is now a confident and friendly dog. Perhaps she is just a little shy around strangers, but that’s it. Emma was found as a stray, and it was very difficult to catch her because she was extremely fearful. At first, she had trouble adjusting at the animal shelter due to her fear. She still searches for a family with patience because at the beginning, she might be very shy. But with some time, she will develop into a very affectionate dog. The information regarding shoulder height and further details will be provided soon. Interested parties who wish to offer Emma a loving home can contact us to learn more about this remarkable transformation and her needs. Emma was found by a volunteer of the animal shelter near a train station and safely brought to the animal shelter, where she also received her name and integrated well into the pack. At the beginning, and still, Emma was a little shy, but this fades once she gains trust. Emma is looking for a loving family that will take the time to get to know her and explore the world with her. With a little patience and a lot of love, the young Emma will surely become a faithful companion in every life situation. Info on shoulder height to follow, info to follow / small to medium size (13 kg).

About Emma

What life with Emma looks like

Emma is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
