Adopt Enjo

Belgian Malinois · Male · Adult · 4 years

The young Malinois-Mix male dog was handed over to us from another animal shelter due to overexertion from another animal shelter. His owners had been pushing the young male dog non-stop since puppyhood. Every day of dog training classes, plus additional private lessons with the trainer, nose work, etc. He was never given time to relax or do what he wanted… Eventually, the limit was reached and Enjo had enough. He refused to keep working and began standing up to his owners. The more pressure built up and the more they tried to force this life on him, the more intense his reaction became. Even at the animal shelter, the situation was not exactly easy for him. Especially tight physical restraints (vet examinations, treatments, putting on a chest harness, etc.) and being alone in the room or outdoor enclosure were very hard for him to handle, and he tried to bite multiple times, sometimes successfully. Eventually, the overworked guy landed with us and has since made great progress. With well-established routines and rituals, he now masters the shelter life quite easily, but still needs very clear rules and boundaries, as he often makes only average decisions when left alone. The typically highly excitable young male dog used to passionately chase cars, motorcycles, cyclists, and joggers and bark at them, but he now manages it at least with his trusted people. He also handles dog interactions very calmly and without a scene. Enjo is very friendly and open with people and is very focused on his trusted people. He also gets along well with fellow animals, although he tends to start bullying other dogs or breaking up a small fight when he gets bored. Enjo is looking for capable dog owners who can provide the conditions to help him realize his huge potential and become the amazing dog he is. With clear guidance and loving understanding, you quickly get through to the athletic, sensitive guy, and once Enjo has you in his big heart, he goes through thick and thin with you. Do you think you are the right person for Enjo or would you like to get to know him better?.

About Enjo

What life with Enjo looks like

Enjo is a extra-large adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires very clear rules and boundaries, struggles with being alone, has history of biting during stressful situations like medical exams

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Enjo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Enjo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Enjo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Enjo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Enjo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Enjo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Enjo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
