Enrique &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 9 months

When one adopts a mixed-breed puppy, one always gets an unexpected surprise. The adult dog is rarely what one expects, or it changes multiple times – but the little furball usually conquers every heart so quickly that it no longer matters whether the puppy is smaller or larger, darker or lighter, more active or more laid-back than one thought. A living being is always a unique individual, and that makes up a large part of what it means to be a dog owner, and for me, it has been a gift for many years and across many four-legged friends. Those who don’t like that should stick to stuffed animals and robots … So Enrique’s owner should have. Enrique was rescued by our friends at Arca Sevilla. The animal welfare workers discovered the very young dog in early summer 2025, chained up on an abandoned property. Enrique had no contact with humans or other dogs. His owner came once a week, gave him a pile of dog food and a bucket of water, and left the despondent dog alone. The animal welfare workers asked the heartless owner to please surrender Enrique, and the man agreed immediately. Enrique had grown too quickly, he didn’t like it at all. Our heartbreaker weighs in at just 12 kg at 9 months old and is knee-high, so there’s no sign of “too big.” On the contrary, he’s too small to be a threat to anyone, and too noticeable to be constantly overlooked, so one could speak of a perfect build. Enrique has left his past behind and shows himself at the animal shelter of our friends as a cheerful, lively, eager-to-learn, and well-mannered young puppy. He loves humans and animals, is curious, and has a lot of catch-up to do when it comes to cuddling and being loved. Unfortunately, there’s little time for that at the animal shelter, but he has many four-legged friends with whom he enjoys shared naps and forgets the many months of loneliness. Enrique is a playful, intelligent, and handsome heartbreaker who can live with other dogs, likes children, and even meets the cats of Arca Sevilla with friendly curiosity and good intentions (which is observed with little understanding by some cats). Enrique is looking for an active and humorous family to play and snuggle with, to explore the world, and to share many colorful and joyful days together.

About Enrique &#8211

What life with Enrique &#8211 looks like

Enrique &#8211 is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Enrique &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Enrique &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Enrique &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Enrique &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Enrique &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Enrique &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Enrique &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
