Erika

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 6 months

For an explanation, please read Why we are cautious about placing our dogs with families with young children. Information: At the beginning of March 2026, some of our team members visited Elisa's animal shelter in Romania, with which we work closely. Only the dogs that we expect will be happy in the Netherlands - and their adopters with the dog - are matched by us. Puppy Erika certainly belongs to that group! Erika has clearly terrier genes. As a true terrier, she is a lovely feisty lady and an adventurous pup. She loves people, other dogs find her a bit exciting, but she is also curious about them. Outside, she seeks support from people when everything is a bit overwhelming. As a true terrier, she likes to chat along too. Overall, a lovely puppy who is ready to steal your heart! The photos and videos further down this page give a good impression of Erika, during our shelter visit. We expect her to grow up into a small to medium-sized dog. Which breeds are represented in her (previous) parents is unknown, so the final size remains an estimate. Erika is ready for a one-way trip to the Netherlands and can go with the next transport if we find a good home. Her Rabies vaccination is valid. Of course, all other vaccinations are in order. In addition, her health has been checked and she has a registered chip and a passport.

About Erika

What life with Erika looks like

Erika is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Erika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Erika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Erika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Erika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Erika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Erika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Erika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
