Evie

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

💗 Everyone, meet Evie. 💗 Our tiniest little Cocker Spaniel cross is just over a year old, and despite her young age, life hasn’t always been kind to her. Evie originally came into our care from a commercial breeder in very poor condition. She had significant hair loss and was born with a deformity affecting both of her back legs. She suffered from luxating patellas in both knees, making it difficult and painful for her to walk. Yet through it all, Evie has remained the sweetest little soul. She may be timid when she first meets new people, but once she learns to trust you, she gives you her whole heart. She’s gentle, affectionate, and incredibly rewarding to watch blossom. The wonderful news is that Evie has now had corrective surgery on both legs, and it has been an incredible success. She has been so stoic throughout her recovery and has coped amazingly well. We’re now nearing the end of her final six weeks of crate rest, and it’s finally time to begin searching for the special home she deserves. Evie must live with another friendly, confident dog. This isn’t negotiable—it is essential for her confidence and wellbeing. She also needs a fully secure garden where she can safely enjoy herself at her own pace. While her surgeries have given her the chance to live a happy, active life, she isn’t a dog who’ll be walking miles every day. What she needs is a loving family who understands her journey and will let her enjoy life without expecting her to be an endurance athlete. For all intents and purposes, she’s now a normal, happy little dog who simply deserves the chance to be loved. We’re looking for a calm, settled home with children aged 12 years and over, and a family who will give her the time, patience and reassurance she needs as she settles in. Evie is fully crate trained, sleeps soundly in her crate every night without any accidents, and has been an absolute superstar throughout her recovery. If you have room in your heart and home for a little dog who has overcome so much and has so much love to give, Evie could be the perfect addition to your family. We truly can’t wait to see this little girl finally get the happy ending she’s always deserved. ❤️🐾

About Evie

What life with Evie looks like

Evie is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Almost Home Animal Rescue NI in Belfast.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Evie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Evie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Almost Home Animal Rescue NI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Evie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Evie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Almost Home Animal Rescue NI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Evie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Evie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Almost Home Animal Rescue NI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Evie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
