Evie

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

* For more information, please read “Why we are cautious about placing our dogs with families that have (young) children.” Character: Little Evie is a modest girl—she enjoys attention but won’t immediately ask for it herself. She tends to be somewhat reserved until she gets to know you well; she’s calm yet balanced with playful moments, gentle, and above all, incredibly sweet. ❤️ She needs someone who can recognize her signals clearly and who gives Evie all the time and space she needs to gradually build up her trust—in herself, in people, and in “the big outside world.” At her foster home, she has already made wonderful progress in this regard. In a new home, she’ll logically need time and patience again at first; investing in this will pay off handsomely later on! Behavior at home: In general, Evie is a calm dog indoors. She loves getting attention—but she remains reserved until she knows you well. When you come home after being away—or if there’s food involved—she becomes really enthusiastic; her tail wags nonstop then. 🥰 She also loves playing with the other foster dog at the home, Yuna. She’s wonderfully nurturing toward Yuna, and you’ll find a cute video of this further down on this page. Not long ago, Evie had her own puppies, and you can clearly see that reflected in her behavior. She doesn’t have much contact with the family’s two resident dogs; she understands their signals perfectly when they’re not looking for interaction, and she respects that. She’s also respectful toward the cats at her foster home. Visits are initially exciting for her, but once she’s properly guided through them and the visitors leave her alone without forcing anything, she quickly becomes comfortable. She has no experience with children yet, but Evie will be happiest in a household that isn’t overly busy. She thrives on calmness and predictability.

About Evie

What life with Evie looks like

Evie is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Evie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Evie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Evie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Evie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Evie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Evie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Evie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
