Fabian

Male · Young · 2 years

Fabian is a very affectionate and loving boy who utterly adores a bum scratch from his favourite humans! Fabian is highly food motivated and can lead you to believe he has not had his breakfast. He has come to us very overweight and will need to continue his diet in his new home so he can enjoy all the adventures life has planned for him! He is obsessed with playing tuggy games with his humans, as well as chasing a ball and putting indestructible teddies to the test. Fabian walks really nicely on lead and travels nicely in the car so he would love a home where his new people will keep up with his playful spirit and take him on lots of nice adventures. He didn't have the easiest start to life and does still have some worries, for example he doesn't like doors being closed on him, so he will benefit from kind owners who understand he needs a little extra support in some areas to continue building his confidence and continue growing into the most wonderful dog! Meet our sweet gentleman Fabian, a Shepherd crossbreed who'll soon steal your heart! While Fabian can sometimes be a little worried and avoidant of new people, he has built oodles of confidence in the time we've known him and comes around for love and fusses really quickly if given the time to approach on his own terms. He can bark a bit at visitors to the home and is vocal if he gets the chance to watch out of the window. So he will benefit from a home who don't mind a bit of barking and are happy to slowly introduce him to visitors. Fabian copes well with a few hours home alone and this has scope to be built up gradually if you spend longer away from some days. He loves being out and about, taking in all the world has to offer, so will benefit from a reasonably active home. Fabian sometimes barks at bigger dogs who make him nervous, but also likes to make nice doggy friends and could live with a calm and playful dog in the home, pending a successful meet at the centre. Because he's such a sweet and gentle soul, Fabian could live with primary school children who understand dog body language and will respect his space when he asks for it.

About Fabian

What life with Fabian looks like

Fabian is a young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fabian, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fabian?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fabian on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fabian if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fabian already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fabian isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fabian and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
