Fado-1

Male · Senior · 10 years

Fado is a very cheerful medium-sized dog. He came to the shelter because his owner's health deteriorated and he was no longer able to care for him. At first, he kept his distance from new people, but he needed some time, and it's no wonder, because he was always taken care of by one person who suddenly disappeared from his life. If you give him some space at first, Fado will start seeking contact with people after some time. He is not a typical cuddler, but he won't mind being scratched behind the ears or on the butt, but only when he wants to. Walks with him are a pleasure. He walks on a loose leash close to the person, sniffs and comes when called. He is not afraid of traffic, so he would find his way in the city. Dogs he meets on walks are completely ignored, but in direct contact with a fearful dog, he was not friendly, clearly marking his boundaries. He may tolerate another dog with proper introduction, but he values his own space very much. He completely ignores cats on walks, even at a small distance. He does not like being left alone in a box after a walk, he becomes very attached to his caregiver. Fado is looking for a home that will give him the time and space he values so much. In return, he will get a wonderful, devoted companion for walks and lounging on the couch together.

PL·Show original

Spacery z nim to sama przyjemność.

About Fado-1

What life with Fado-1 looks like

Fado-1 is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fado-1, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fado-1?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fado-1 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fado-1 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fado-1 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fado-1 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fado-1 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
