Feliz

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 12 months

Feliz bears her name for a good reason: despite her challenging start in life, this young Podenco brings with her a healthy dose of joy and zest for life. She was born around August 2024; today, she stands about 48 centimeters tall at the shoulder and weighs 15 kilograms. This makes her just the right size—perfectly suited to be both an energetic companion and a cozy couch cushion with the warmth of a hot water bottle. Feliz was rescued by DogzMansion’s animal protectors from the streets, where she’d been emaciated and hopelessly searching alongside a four-legged friend for food and affection. The fact that she now walks through life so friendly, open, curious, and deeply people-oriented shows just how much heart and optimism this dog carries inside (and highlights the wonderful work our partners in Andalusia are doing). Feliz is a cuddly young lady who seeks close contact with her humans and thoroughly appreciates gentle petting. She loves giving out affectionate kisses and wants to please others, making her a truly devoted companion. At the same time, she’s no stuffed toy on standby—rather, she’s an active, spirited, and intelligent Podenco. If you live with her, you’ll not only get big, expressive eyes and delicate ears, but also a keen nose, alert senses, and that breed-typical hunting instinct all rolled into one. Outdoors, Feliz is attentive and interested, which means her future humans should enjoy walks, engaging activities, and shared adventures together. Feliz gets along well with male dogs, and with female dogs too, as long as there’s mutual sympathy. Sometimes she displays a certain amount of self-confidence—depending on your perspective, you might even call it a little “bossy” quality. She’s suitable as a second dog, provided the existing dog is compatible with her and the humans can handle these encounters calmly and confidently. Whether she can live harmoniously with cats or children is currently unknown. That’s why we’re looking for a home for Feliz that won’t throw her into too many unfamiliar situations, but instead will gradually show her just how wonderful a reliable dog life can be. On the leash, Feliz is still somewhat unsure. She therefore needs people with dog experience who can provide her with security, lead clearly, yet remain kind and patient. A dog training school can certainly help—even if it’s not a prerequisite for adoption. Joint training would definitely be beneficial, though, because Feliz is eager to learn and find her way. The people in her new home should be prepared to give her time, build trust, and keep her physically and mentally stimulated appropriately. Like many street dogs, Feliz tested positive for leishmaniasis. She’s currently receiving allopurinol as treatment. However, since she’s showing no symptoms, under veterinary supervision, the medication could very well be paused or discontinued once she’s settled into her new home. Regular blood tests—every 6–12 months or so—will become part of Feliz’s daily routine. If you’re looking for a loving, active, cuddly, and characterful dog who still needs a bit of guidance but has so much to offer, you absolutely must meet Feliz. She’s ready for her next chapter—preferably with people who bring just as much heart to the relationship as she does herself.

DE·Show original

About Feliz

What life with Feliz looks like

Feliz is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Feliz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Feliz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Feliz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Feliz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Feliz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Feliz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Feliz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
