Fergus

Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten · 11 months

Please say hello to the very sweet little boy Fergus, he is approximately 8-11 months old. Fergus came to us as a stray and has had the tip of his ear removed as you will see from his photo.Fergus is very nervous of people when they move towards him or try to touch/stroke, he is unsure of people and will need time to settle in. He is however food motivated, and will come to his foster carers if they offer treats. He does choose to be in the same room as them now, which we take as a sign of his growing confidence in trust. Fergus has made great progress since he's been with us, and with the right home we think his confidence and trust in people will continue to grow (even if it takes a very long time!). Fergus loves playing and his new family will need to have lots of time to spend with him. Fergus will need to be rehomed as an indoor cat because he has a neurological condition which leads him to stumble and miss steps. Fergus has had an assessment with a specialist vet and they have advised his condition is most likely cerebellar hypoplasia, he does not require medication for this at present and it isn't negatively impacting his life, he's just a bit wobbly! The ideal adopter will have a garden and would be open to provide a Catio for him or to cat proof their fence, this is so Fergus can still enjoy the outside but can be kept safe. About Fergus

What life with Fergus looks like

Fergus is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at RSPCA North Wiltshire (Oak & Furrows) in United Kingdom.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fergus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fergus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA North Wiltshire (Oak & Furrows) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fergus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fergus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA North Wiltshire (Oak & Furrows) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fergus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fergus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA North Wiltshire (Oak & Furrows) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fergus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
