adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Ferries has found a home! His story: To describe the wonderful Ferries, it would take just one word – Dream Dog! For a 3-year-old male dog, he brings all the wonderful qualities one could wish for in a furry or, better yet, scruffy roommate. He is friendly, people-oriented, balanced, but most of all, incredibly lovable. Although Ferries was already disappointed by humans and had to endure the worst conditions in the public shelter's killing station, he shows himself as an impressive example of how true nature can be preserved despite all adversities. For Ferries, he doesn't hold anything against us – quite the opposite. He is happy to be around people, but never pushy. Once he gains trust, he shows his playful side and turns out to be a charmer who enjoys cuddles and can't get enough of them. With a shoulder height of about 52 cm and a weight of 18 kg, he counts as a medium-sized dog. While we can only speculate which breeds are in him, one thing is certain: with his standing ears, fringed muzzle, and black fur with gray streaks, he is simply a looker. His testicles are completely missing – they were removed. A sad sign of his past, but it should not be an obstacle to falling in love with this great guy. An entry into Switzerland is unfortunately closed off to him due to this. Ferries is described by our team on-site as a rather easygoing dog who would fit well into a family. But he still needs to get to know life in the household, just like the big dog ABC. He is already accustomed to a leash and harness, but walking on it still requires practice. A visit to a qualified dog training class could help with training and also assist in growing as a team with his people. He gets along well with other dogs. Whether he is compatible with cats, we do not know. On Ferries's wish list for a happy life are extended walks, exciting sniffer adventures, and lots of cuddle time. A cozy place to rest, playful mental stimulation, and the occasional delicious treat would make his happiness perfect. Who gives our Ferries the chance to leave the shelter behind and finally start anew? A foster home would also be a welcome first step. Many thanks, Sunny W., for taking on his namesship. Status: 08.02. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Stand: 08.02.2025

About Ferries

What life with Ferries looks like

Ferries is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ferries, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ferries?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ferries on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ferries if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ferries already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ferries isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ferries and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
