Flaki

Podenco · Female · Adult · 4 years

Flaki is a gentle, sensitive female dog who views the world with cautious eyes. She came to our shelter from Spain and has not had the opportunity to experience a safe and secure home in her life. As a result, she currently lacks confidence. Forming a close, trusting bond with humans is also something new for her. However, Flaki shows us every day what she is capable of. Although she is still very afraid of new things and unfamiliar situations, she learns surprisingly well at her own pace. She needs time, patience, and people who provide her with security and do not force anything from her. Once she has gained trust, she makes small but beautiful progress. She has discovered her hobby of driving a car and has quickly become the perfect little passenger. Flaki has developed a close bond with her walker and is very happy when she is picked up for a walk. She is increasingly showing how important this familiar person has become to her. She is also slowly starting to enjoy petting - a small sign that she is gaining more confidence and can allow herself to be close. A confident, emotionally stable first dog in a new home is particularly important for Flaki. She strongly identifies with other dogs, observes them closely and draws courage from them. What initially frightens her often becomes easier when she sees that her dog companion handles it quite naturally. Here at the shelter, she has found a German dog friend with whom she likes to identify and joyfully join. Flaki is looking for people with a lot of patience, empathy and a calm, confident nature. People who do not take the time she needs, but give her the opportunity to build trust on her own. She is not a dog that immediately starts a carefree new life - but she is a dog that wants to learn. Whoever gives Flaki the necessary security and is willing to take her step by step will experience how a cautious little dog becomes an increasingly trusting and lively companion. Flaki does not need a perfect home. She needs a home that gives her security, has patience with her and shows her that she has finally arrived. Flaki should not be with small children, as she cannot assess them well. However, empathetic children from 10 years onwards could be possible. Her new people should be experienced with dogs and have a lot of patience as well as an existing first dog.

DE·Show original

Doch genau hier zeigt uns Flaki jeden Tag aufs Neue, was in ihr steckt.

About Flaki

What life with Flaki looks like

Flaki is a large adult podenco dog waiting at Tierheim Koblenz in Koblenz.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Flaki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Flaki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Koblenz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Flaki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Flaki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Koblenz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Flaki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Flaki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Koblenz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Flaki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
