Floki

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Floki is a stunningly handsome and incredibly lovable young tomcat who ended up here because he did not get along with the other cat in his family. More precisely, we have the impression that the shy Floki became a victim of bullying, which caused him to withdraw more and more. The fact that he could not escape from his tormentor as a pure indoor cat has only exacerbated the situation. Despite being a four-year-old gentle boy who actually loves people very much and enjoys every pat, we can see that the company of other cats unsettles him: Even though he resides in a spacious single enclosure in our our shelter, just the sight of his often very friendly but nonetheless curious cage-mates on the other side of the bars is enough to keep him hidden inside his cozy den for most of the day. His strategy for dealing with seemingly dominant fellow animals is clearly not aggression but retreat. If you sit with him and encourage him, however, he quickly leaves his sanctuary and enjoys the attention of the bipeds. From his former owners, we know that he is extremely affectionate and in the joy of the moment, he even sometimes sucks on the "fur" of his people. Therefore, Floki meets all the criteria of a beginner's cat and can also go to people who have had no previous experience with these mini-tigers but are willing to connect with their soul and body language. The friendly tomcat does not make high demands on his new home. Naturally, he wants to be a single pet, and children should preferably be at least school age, as an insecure animal like Floki might suffer under human overstepping if they do not understand his signals or disregard his occasional need for withdrawal. After a transitional phase, it is essential that in Floki's new home, safe free roam is possible – whether and to what extent he chooses to use it, he can then decide for himself. DE·Show original

About Floki

What life with Floki looks like

Floki is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. in Neuwied.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Floki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Floki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Floki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Floki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Floki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Floki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Floki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
