Adopt Florian

Mixed Breed · Unknown

In June 2022, Carmen, who maintains Carpen farm, was driving to the farm when suddenly, in the middle of the fields far from villages and settlements, she saw a motionless figure. Since finding sick dogs is almost daily routine in Romania, Carmen immediately knew she couldn't ignore it. Therefore, she stopped and when she got closer, she saw that the figure was an extremely thin and wounded dog. The female dog, named Flor, was too weak to move. On the way to the veterinarian, she nibbled grass, which she had probably eaten desperately while lying on the field out of hunger. Flor was first treated at the vet and after being sufficiently recovered, she was moved to the shelter kennel, where treatment continued. Gradually, Flor's condition improved and she started gaining weight. Despite everything, Flor remained a very thin convalescent, so it was a big surprise when a few weeks later, in her litter, there were five newborn puppies in addition to herself. She had already been pregnant at the time of discovery, and instead of one, Carmen had actually saved six lucky ones that day. Flor and her puppy Fanni, Frans, Florian, Fiona and Frida are still waiting at Carpen shelter kennel. The puppies have grown up in the shelter kennel and therefore understandably, everything is fascinating and exciting for them. Florian lives separately from the other puppies and her mother, because previously the other puppies bullied her so much that she had to be moved to another kennel. Now she shares her kennel with two other young dogs and gets along well with them. Since all the residents of the kennel are shy, Florian is initially cautious around strangers. After a while, curiosity wins over and she starts sniffing strangers. Treats also appeal to her from the hand, but touching is still too stressful.

About Florian

What life with Florian looks like

Florian is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Embla Rescue in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Florian, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Florian?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Embla Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Florian on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Florian if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Embla Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Florian already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Florian isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Embla Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Florian and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
