Fly

European Shorthair · Unknown · Young · 1 year

How the sweet Fly came to his name and to our partner shelter on Sardinia, no one remembers his story anymore. But the young and exceptionally handsome tomcat is one of the many Ataxie cats found and brought to L.I.D.A. The little Fly likely had siblings, but he would not have been able to survive in freedom on Sardinia. Unsteady on his four legs, he wobbles. Yet, Fly is a dear little fellow, who gets dreadfully bored in his cage. He lacks all positive incentives for a good development: playing with fellow animals, movement, and affectionate touch that can give him security. Fly does not know that he is a little "different" from his fellow animals, for he only knows himself and has had no contact with other cats. His Ataxie is probably congenital. It is certain that Fly must get out of his cage quickly so that he can have a good and fulfilling cat life. I am looking for a loving foster home or a cat-experienced home with a secure outdoor access for the young, nice tomcat. He should not be in single-holding, as social contact with fellow animals, whether healthy or also handicapped, is very important for his development. If you have questions about Ataxie or what special requirements a home for Fly should have, I would be happy to answer them. Fly is microchipped, neutered, and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. For travel arrangements, he will be vaccinated against rabies and cat flu/kennel cough, and will receive a parasite prophylaxis.

About Fly

What life with Fly looks like

Fly is a small young adult european shorthair cat waiting at PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
