FOLTOS

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Estimated date of birth: June 2021 Brief profile: very friendly, people-oriented, outgoing, active, dynamic, strong, eager to learn, male+, female+ In March 2026, Levente, a shelter employee, found an elderly German Shepherd dog on the street. Since the dog was chipped, the owner—a local company—could be identified. Levente and the shelter director Kata drove together to the company’s premises and located the employee responsible for the dog. The man explained that the German Shepherd had previously been kept on the company grounds as a guard dog, but now that cameras had been installed on the property, there was no longer any need for a guard dog. Kata then offered to take the dog in and find him a good home. The man declined, assuring her that he would take good care of the elderly dog himself. However, he did ask whether Kata could take in the company’s second guard dog, who was much younger. And so Foltos, estimated to have been born in June 2021, ended up at the shelter. This handsome male with an unusual appearance was initially somewhat uncertain about his new situation at the shelter. Although he’s quite a big fellow, he appeared nervous and even submissive. At the same time, it was clear from the start that Foltos is also highly people-oriented and friendly, longing for attention and affection. Moreover, he’s a very agile fellow, full of strength and energy—energy that needs to be channeled in a constructive way. It has often been observed, however, that energetic and nervous dogs tend to calm down once they leave the stressful shelter environment and settle into a normal daily routine. As for compatibility with other dogs, Foltos has already demonstrated his remarkable ability to learn. While he was initially tense and even aggressive at the shelter, during the two weeks he spent at a dog training center, he learned to interact peacefully and calmly with his canine companions. We’re now looking for active yet confident people with substantial dog experience—ideally those familiar with Malinois, Herders, German Shepherds, or similar breeds—who are willing and able to train Foltos, teaching him all the essential skills needed for a relaxed dog life and spending plenty of time with him. He’s certainly not the kind of dog who can just tag along casually and be satisfied with three half-hour walks around the block each day. But if you invest time, patience, and loving consistency into his training and provide him with appropriate mental and physical stimulation through suitable dog sports or other activities, you’ll surely gain a loyal companion who will bring lots of joy and good cheer to your new home. Given his physical strength, his new owners should be physically capable of handling him. Foltos will go to his new home neutered, chipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and equipped with an EU pet passport. Would you like and are able to offer this wonderful Foltos a life that’s truly suited to his needs? Then we’d love to hear from you! About FOLTOS

What life with FOLTOS looks like

FOLTOS is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting FOLTOS, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about FOLTOS?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw FOLTOS on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt FOLTOS if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is FOLTOS already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if FOLTOS isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know FOLTOS and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
