Fortunata

European Shorthair · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Fortunata had given up on life. She was hit by a car in Budoni, Sardinia, and lay dying on the side of the road for several days until someone found her and brought her to our shelter. No one thought the tabby cat would survive the first night; she was badly injured with a broken jaw, worms in her eyes, and barely showed any signs of life. But Fortunata felt the love and care that was poured over her, and on the 5th day, she began to purr softly, showing she wanted to live. From that day on, she fought her way back to life, gratefully accepting all the help and care from the shelter staff. Fortunata, estimated to be 5 years old, is a small miracle of survival and hope. Fortunata has taken her life back into her own paws. She could, as her name suggests, become a happy cat. For that, I am now looking for her a home or foster placement, so she can finally get out of the cage. It must be a special home, because Fortunata has unfortunately tested positive for leukemia, so she can only be kept with other FeLV cats or as a beloved single princess. She cannot go outside and therefore requires a home with an enclosed balcony or terrace, ideally a small secure garden or outdoor run. I wish the little mouse a quiet place, without small children, and plenty of time for loving care. Fortunata is microchipped, spayed, tested negative for FIV. She travels with the necessary rabies and cat flu/distemper vaccinations and receives parasite prophylaxis. I keep my fingers crossed for Fortunata that she will have another chance and a loving family will come forward for her, whether as a foster placement or forever home.

About Fortunata

What life with Fortunata looks like

Fortunata is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fortunata, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fortunata?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fortunata on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fortunata if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fortunata already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fortunata isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fortunata and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
