Could you be the one to give Rita a safe and cozy place while she waits for her forever family?Meet Rita She will be 6 in December. Rita is a teenie weenie gal at 25 kg. She's a friendly and gentle girl. Rita is a sociable hound who gets on well with dogs both big and small. She loves her leisurely strolls and is gentle on lead. 🛋️ A sofa to call her own. Somewhere soft and safe to stretch out and finally relax. 🔇 Quiet and calm. Time away from the noise and busyness of kennel life. 🤗 Human company. Someone steady and close by to help her build trust and confidence at his own pace. 🚶 Gentle walks. The chance to explore the world quietly, taking in new sights and sounds without pressure. 🏡 A routine. Mealtimes, walks and rest in a calm, predictable rhythm that helps a new hound feel secure. 🐶 The company of calm dogs. A chance to learn what it means to share a home with another hound. 📝 We will share more about Rita once she is settled in foster care. 🏡 Location: Dublin, Cork or nearby surrounding areas. 👶 Children: Age 10+ and dog savvy. 🐾 Other pets: No small pets. Good with calm dogs. 🌿 Garden: Fully enclosed and secure if present. 🕐 Home presence: Someone home most of the day to give a young pup the time and reassurance he needs. ⏰ Time commitment: Temporary, usually 2-8 weeks until adoption. • You give her the very first experience of home life and human companionship. • You help her build the confidence she needs to thrive as a pet. • You free up a space so RIGHT can help the next hound on the waiting list. • You prepare her for the forever family who is out there waiting for her. • It's a temporary commitment that makes a lifelong difference. • All costs covered: food, vet care, supplies. • Regular check-ins and support. • Guidance every step of the way. • Most placements last 2-8 weeks. We guide you through everything and provide full support. We ask for kindness, consistency and a warm space for Rita to feel safe. 5 years old and will be 6 in December Written by the Rehoming Irish Greyhounds team. About Foster Rita

What life with Foster Rita looks like

Foster Rita is a large adult greyhound dog waiting at RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team in Dublin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Foster Rita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Foster Rita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Foster Rita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Foster Rita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Foster Rita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Foster Rita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team early rather than rehoming privately; they know Foster Rita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
