Adopt Foxy

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Foxy is a very sociable and affectionate dog who loves the company of both people and other dogs. He is active, playful, and enjoys playing with his dog buddies. But relaxed moments also belong to his daily routine – after a thorough play session, he likes to lie down and rest. Every Saturday, Foxy goes for a walk with the volunteers and walks very well on a leash. He is friendly and open-minded, showing himself to be an uncomplicated companion both at the animal shelter and in a home environment. Foxy came to the animal shelter as a puppy and had the good fortune to spend a year in a loving family. There, he was very much loved, but his adventurous spirit became a challenge: Foxy is a true escape artist. He would often escape from the garden to explore his surroundings on his own. Sometimes he would return on his own, but often he had to be searched for. Reluctantly, the family decided to bring him back to the animal shelter because the danger to him and others was too great. Foxy escaped from the animal shelter again and was found by a photographer, who temporarily took him in. There, he showed himself to be a perfect roommate and enjoyed spending time with the family’s son, even sleeping with him. Unfortunately, he had to be returned after two days because he showed a strong aversion to cats. Foxy is looking for an active family that enjoys an energetic, lively dog. He would be an ideal companion for people who like to do a lot of things and like to spend time with their dog. In his new home, there should be a well-secured garden, as Foxy has a tendency to escape. Other dogs are welcome, as he is very social and loves to play. Cats should not live in the household. In November 2023, a contact with leishmaniasis was established in Foxy, which is why he was treated prophylactically with Allopurinol. A recheck in March 2024 showed that he no longer has leishmaniasis. Otherwise, Foxy is healthy and ready for a new home. Who will give this lovable adventurer a second chance?

About Foxy

What life with Foxy looks like

Foxy is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Foxy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Foxy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Foxy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Foxy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Foxy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Foxy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Foxy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
