Francis

Male · Adult · 5 years

Francis is a gorgeous, affectionate boy who has already been through far more than any cat should. He came into our care after being found abandoned outside a supermarket in a carrier, hidden behind blankets and lying in his own mess. We have no idea how long he had been there. Despite such a frightening experience, Francis has remained an incredibly sweet-natured boy and, once he knows he can trust you, his affectionate side really starts to shine. He has a beautiful purr that will melt your heart and loves giving sweet little head bumps and nuzzles. ❤️ Francis is also a bit of a thinker! He likes to know what’s going on around him and can often be found watching everything from afar, seemingly deep in thought while he takes it all in. At approximately five years old, Francis is now safely settled into foster care and has had the chance to experience the comfort, fuss and security that he should have had all along. Francis actually thought he had already found his furever home. Sadly, his potential adopter had an unexpected change in circumstances and was no longer able to go ahead with his adoption, so through absolutely no fault of his own, Francis is once again searching for his person. 💜 Everything Francis has been through has understandably left him a little unsure of new people, places and situations. He can become anxious and, when he feels overwhelmed, he can sometimes be unsure how to respond in the moment. These moments are brief, and Francis benefits from being given some time and space to regain his composure. He needs someone patient and understanding who will respect his boundaries, allow him to find his feet and give him the chance to build trust at his own pace. Francis must be the only cat in his new home. He really does not like other cats and will be much happier having his home and his humans all to himself! He also cannot live with young children, so Francis is looking for a calmer home where his boundaries can be understood and respected. Francis is microchipped, neutered, flea and worm treated and has received his vaccinations. After being left behind once already, Francis deserves the chance to finally feel completely safe and secure. Give him the time, patience and love he needs and there is a wonderful cat waiting to blossom. He has all the potential to become an incredibly loving and loyal companion, and when those head bumps and nuzzles start coming your way, you’ll know you’ve earned the trust of a very special boy. ❤️

About Francis

What life with Francis looks like

Francis is a adult cat waiting at StraySafe Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Francis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Francis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. StraySafe Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Francis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Francis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — StraySafe Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Francis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Francis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with StraySafe Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Francis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
