Karen

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Kitten · 6 months

Karen may not be the first kitten to run over and demand your attention… but she has a quiet kind of magic that’s impossible to ignore. 🐾 Karen arrived into our care alongside her siblings, Danny and Gosia, after the trio were discovered abandoned in a skip as tiny kittens. Having had very little positive human interaction, they came to us as feral kittens who simply didn’t know that people could be trusted. Since then, Karen has been on an incredible journey. Through endless patience, love and dedication from her wonderful foster mum, she’s learnt that people aren’t quite as scary as she once thought. Every tiny step forward has been a huge achievement, and while Karen still has a long way to go, we’re so incredibly proud of how far she’s come. Karen is the shyest of the three siblings and is looking for a very special home with someone who understands that not every cat shows love in the same way. She isn’t a lap cat, and she won’t enjoy being picked up or handled. Human affection is still something she finds quite overwhelming, although she will sometimes accept a gentle stroke when she’s feeling particularly brave. Those little moments are incredibly rewarding because you know just how much trust they represent. 💜 What Karen does absolutely adore, however, is the company of other cats. She takes great comfort in having feline friends around her and would thrive in a home with a confident, friendly cat to help show her that the world isn’t such a scary place. Because of her nervous nature, Karen will need a calm, quiet home with no dogs, where she can settle at her own pace without pressure or expectation. You may already recognise Karen from our social media! Along with Danny and Gosia, she’s one of our famous Skip Litter, and we’ve shared regular updates, photos and videos documenting their remarkable journey from frightened feral kittens to the wonderful cats they are today. Karen isn’t looking for someone to change who she is. She’s looking for someone who will love her for exactly who she is. Someone who understands that trust can’t be rushed. Someone who’ll celebrate the smallest victories, give her the space she needs, and smile the day she chooses to sit a little closer than yesterday. Watching a cat like Karen slowly learn that she’s finally safe is one of the most rewarding experiences there is. ✨ Could you be the patient, understanding person Karen has been waiting for? Karen can be adopted with one of her siblings, with another friendly resident cat, or into a home where she won’t be the only feline companion.

About Karen

What life with Karen looks like

Karen is a very small puppy/kitten mixed breed cat cat waiting at StraySafe Rescue in United Kingdom.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. StraySafe Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — StraySafe Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with StraySafe Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
