Franklin

Male · Adult · 4 years

Franklin is looking for a home with loving and adopters who can take him on gentle sniffy strolls, who will take the time to help him settle in and give him all the love and attention he deserves. He is a friendly bean once he knows you so could live with secondary school children who can let him approach at his own pace, who will play with him nicely and will give him space to rest when needed. Franklin likes all of the attention to himself, so is looking to be the only pet in the home, he would benefit from having polite and calm walking buddies who will help him to build confidence around socialising with other dogs. Franklin already has a little training under his belt, he knows his name and does a lovely “sit” and “paw”, he could be persuaded to engage in training in short, sweet sessions as long as a tasty treat is on offer. Franklin can settle nicely in the home so could be left for up to 4 hours, any leaving time would need to be built up slowly once he has had time to settle into his new home. Franklin is on daily medication and will need to meet his adopters a few times prior to going home so please bear all of this in mind when applying. Super handsome and fluffy boy Franklin is a 4 year old German Shepherd who likes a gentle sniffy stroll in a quieter area where he can explore at his leisure. He’s not super fussy with toys, but does like to bounce and play around with his favourite people, he also loves a splish splash in the paddling pool, just watch out for the inevitable shake out after. He enjoys a fuss, especially a neck scratch, he will get all wiggly and silly when you get the right spot. He does think he is the perfect size to be a lapdog, although your lap might not agree. This gorgeous gent is looking for his new home now.

About Franklin

What life with Franklin looks like

Franklin is a adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Franklin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Franklin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Franklin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Franklin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Franklin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Franklin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Franklin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
