Daniel

Male · Adult · 5 years

Daniel is looking for a calm and quiet home with loving and active adopters who can take him on sniffy adventures, who will take the time to help him settle in and give him all the love and attention he deserves. He can be worried by meeting new people and lots of handling so is looking for a home with older secondary school children who can be calm around him, who can play with him nicely and will give him space to rest and relax when needed. Daniel could live with another calm and friendly dog who will happily co-exist and engage in occasional play, a dog that will teach him the ropes and help him build his confidence, this will be pending successful meetings at the centre. Although this is not a necessity, he would be happy with friendly and playful walking buddies. He would also love to have polite and friendly walking buddies. Daniel has a little training under his belt, he can be enticed to engage in training in short sweet sessions if a tasty treat is on offer and as long as he is feeling safe and secure, he is currently doing training around car travel as he can be worried by the car. He would like a home with a private, secure garden for him to potter about in at his leisure. Daniel can be worried being left so is looking for someone home the majority of the time, or someone who can take them with him when they have to leave the house. Daniel will need to meet his adopters multiple times prior to going home with the potential for home visits to check that he is settling in ok, so please bear this in mind when applying. Please note that should you be shortlisted, our rehoming process usually takes up to 7 days, and potential adopters would be required to come up to the centre to meet her within 48hrs of being shortlisted. Sweet and gentle boy Daniel is a 5 year old Spaniel who is still learning about the world. He loves to keep himself busy and is very scent driven, he spends a lot of his time sniffing and exploring his surroundings. His favourite time of day is playtime, he will play a game of fetch all day if you let him, although he is happy to play alone too, He does like to carry a toy around in his mouth like a security blanket when he is a little worried. This wonderful boy is ready to find his new home.

About Daniel

What life with Daniel looks like

Daniel is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Anxious around new people and handling, car travel issues, separation anxiety - needs someone home majority of time

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Daniel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Daniel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Daniel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Daniel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Daniel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Daniel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Daniel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
