FACTSHEET: ALL ABOUT Ginger Pictures (click to enlarge previews) This is lovely Ginger. Would you be her Fred? Ginger is a dog with a lot of personality, but makes you work a little for her affections until she gets to know you. She can be a bit sassy with the neighbouring dogs when there is too much action, or with the pigeons when they go near the dog food.. she likes her food! Ginger can be quite shy of new people, she needs time to be ready to be touched – however she does already walk quite nicely on leash with her regular people and recently even did really well walking with someone she had never met before. Now we think she is ready for a home of her own, as long as it is with calm and patient people she will develop quickly. Ginger was found as a little puppy alone on the street in Argos, Greece. She was at risk from bigger dogs and cars and was very afraid, too young to be alone. A family found her and took her in temporarily, so she could be vaccinated and brought to good health. Eventually she had to come to the Laiza shelter and she has been there for one year. Species:dog Date of Birth:10/2022 Can travel after:Now Gender:female Neutered:yes Health Issues:no Medication:no Weight:22 kg Height:52 cm Behaviour around dogs:She is housed with another dog and is very social with her, so could be a second dog. Behaviour around cats:Has been with cats before and was ok. Behaviour around kids:Older children who respect the boundaries of a nervous dog should be ok. Could be the only animal:Yes, but does better with a dog friend. Tags: available for adoption

About Fred

What life with Fred looks like

Fred is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Laiza Strays in Greece.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fred, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fred?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Laiza Strays handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fred on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fred if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Laiza Strays will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fred already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fred isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Laiza Strays early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fred and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
