Adopt Frieda

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The three Wutzen, Frieda, Franzi, and Luzie, were seized by the veterinary office and initially fattened up on a horse farm, but that farm found no new home for the clever trio. We had to completely seal off a section with cane poles in the pig farm in Erflinghausen because the minis came through everywhere. It was a funny sight as they darted from 680 square meters from section to section, stealing grain residues from the big pigs. The big Wutzen looked very irritated, but before they could rise, the three quick thieves were already hidden in the next stall section. We would have liked to let them continue darting around the entire stable, as that would have been a good enrichment program for the big pigs, but the downside is the stable door. If it is left open by accident, Frieda with her two friends would surely take a longer walk through the Hochsauerland.

About Frieda

What life with Frieda looks like

Frieda is a medium-sized adult mixed breed horse waiting at Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. in Drolshagen.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Frieda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Frieda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Frieda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Frieda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Frieda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most horses on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Frieda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Frieda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
