Fudge

Male · Adult · 7 years

Fudge is a gentle and sensitive Standard Dachshund who is looking for a calm home where he can take his time settling in and building trust with his new owners. He is currently based at Battersea Old Windsor. Fudge can be timid when meeting new people but warms up quickly, enjoying fuss and the company of his favourite people. When given time, Fudge forms strong bonds and loves a game of fetch with his tennis balls. He will need time in his new home to build up independence and will benefit greatly from a consistent routine with clear home boundaries. When out on walks Fudge likes a gentle potter, often using his nose to take in his surroundings. Quiet walking areas with fewer dogs and distractions will help him feel more relaxed as he adjusts to his new surroundings. Fudge will need a private garden so he can build his confidence in his own safe space. In his previous home Fudge was housetrained so this will also allow him to keep up his training. Fudge does not gain much from the company of other dogs and will often bark at passing dogs. He is ideally looking for a home where he will not have many dog neighbours, giving him the space to continue his training. He may sometimes enjoy a walk with a dog that has a similar independent and calm nature, but he really prefers human company. In a new home that can provide him the patience, time and understanding Fudge will show his affectionate, loyal nature and bright personality. About Fudge

What life with Fudge looks like

Fudge is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fudge, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fudge?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fudge on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fudge if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fudge already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fudge isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fudge and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
