Gertrude

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 3 months

Gertrude - a little heart that wants to finally arrive with you Gertrude did not have a beautiful start in life. Together with her sister Geraldina, she was simply abandoned as a small baby. Two tiny puppies who couldn't help that their life began this way. Fortunately, the two were found and taken to our partner animal shelter LIDA in Sardinia. There, Gertrude was lovingly cared for, vaccinated, chipped, and allowed to grow, play, and experience that people can also be kind. She is currently still there. But now Gertrude is ready for her next big step: she wants to finally find her own family. People who love her, show her the world, and give her a loving home forever. Gertrude is a small, cheerful little girl with a big explorer's heart. She is probably a Labrador-German Shepherd mix - and just as one wishes for a young female dog: playful, curious, affectionate, and full of joie de vivre. She wants to stick her nose in everything, learn new things, be with you, and of course, enjoy many cuddle sessions. There is still a lot to learn for Gertrude. She is not yet house-trained and does not yet know the dog basics. But how nice would it be if she could learn all these things with you? With patience, loving consistency, and a lot of praise, the little rough diamond will surely become a great companion. We wish Gertrude a loving family, preferably with children from about 6 years old, who are eager to accompany a young dog on his way. A house with a garden would be a dream, but what's more important than the garden are people who have time for Gertrude and enjoy showing her the big, exciting world. Gertrude wants to experience, learn, and be busy. Dog sports and activities together could be just the thing for her - for example, agility, mantrailing, dummy work, nose work, or exciting search games. The main thing is that you are together and she can use her head and body. And after that? Of course, you can cuddle a lot. We can very well imagine Gertrude as a wonderful family dog. She brings so much: joie de vivre, curiosity, playfulness, and a great need for closeness. What she is missing now is her own bed, her people, and the feeling of finally arriving. Maybe you are the one with whom she experiences her first big adventures, learns the dog basics together, runs through the meadows, and then falls asleep contentedly cuddled up to you? Gertrude wants to finally leave - with you by her side. Pfoten Match e. V. However, the dogs must be picked up by their adopters at the handover location. If you want to know more about Gertrude, please contact her handler Corinna Alsleben.

About Gertrude

What life with Gertrude looks like

Gertrude is a small puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Pfoten Match e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gertrude, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gertrude?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfoten Match e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gertrude on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gertrude if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfoten Match e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Gertrude already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gertrude isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfoten Match e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gertrude and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
