GIGIS

Male · Senior · 14 years

Meet Gigis – From Chains to Care 💛 Born: approx. 2012 | Mix | Gigis was only 5–6 years old when a family friend “trained” him with violence. After that, even his owners couldn’t handle him. He was chained to the ground with a 1-meter chain, inside a 1-meter high fenced area with no door, no shade, and surrounded by garbage and his own waste. A brave volunteer spent days gaining his trust and finally managed to cut the chain and bring him to safety. Gigis was terrified and highly protective, but step by step, he is learning to feel safe again. Today, he enjoys soft blankets, gentle petting, and is slowly discovering the joy of human companionship. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to take him on walks in our exercise area, and he’s becoming more relaxed, playful, and confident every day. Through virtual adoption, you can provide Gigis with food, medical care, comfort, and the love he has longed for. Be part of giving him the peaceful, happy life he deserves. 💛 PHOTO ALBUM: CLICK HERE

About GIGIS

What life with GIGIS looks like

GIGIS is a senior dog waiting at Naxos Animal Welfare Society (NAWS) in Naxos.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting GIGIS, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about GIGIS?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Naxos Animal Welfare Society (NAWS) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw GIGIS on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt GIGIS if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Naxos Animal Welfare Society (NAWS) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is GIGIS already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if GIGIS isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Naxos Animal Welfare Society (NAWS) early rather than rehoming privately; they know GIGIS and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
