Adopt Grannie

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Quiet, friendly, calm, cozy Grannie was first seen in May. Her fur looked a bit dirty and dull, but there were no signs of mange. We fed Grannie regularly at a fixed feeding station, where she arrived almost exactly every day. Then she suddenly disappeared for several days and when we saw her again at another location, we were very shocked. Her fur showed some bald spots and the diagnosis of mange was confirmed by our veterinarian. Grannie was taken into the animal shelter in order to be treated reliably. She recovered quickly and we considered returning her to her original location. We, like all shelters, have limited space and eventually, every spot is filled and there's no capacity for emergencies. Grannie shows herself to be very quiet and easygoing and with an estimated age of 7-9 years, we just couldn't bring ourselves to do it. Grannie now has a sanctuary place with us and she should never have to worry about food or a safe, dry place to sleep again. We don't want to subject her to a trip to Germany anymore. We would be very grateful for your support through a sponsorship. They are all vaccinated, microchipped and have an EU passport. They will be checked for Mediterranean diseases according to their age. See information on our homepage. Every dog that is rehomed makes room for one of those dogs that live hungry and emaciated.

AUFENTHALTSORT

About Grannie

What life with Grannie looks like

Grannie is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. in Greece.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Grannie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Grannie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Grannie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Grannie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Grannie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Grannie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Grannie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
