Adopt Grete

Rottweiler · Female · Senior · 10 years

Grete is about 10.5 years old, roughly 50 cm tall—and has been waiting for over 1.5 years for her chance. A loving female dog who is simply overlooked. Despite this, Grete has everything one could wish for in a loyal companion: she is people-oriented, sensitive, and friendly when dealing with familiar individuals. She is also generally compatible with other dogs, although she does not like smaller dogs. A home as a single dog or with a similarly sized, calm fellow animal would therefore be ideal for her. Grete did not have a typical start in life: she was raised by a human and thus knew what it was like to have a home—but due to the circumstances of her owner's life, she was increasingly left to her own devices. In the end, she lived isolated in a small hut and was simply forgotten. Fortunately, she was discovered by an animal rescuer and brought to safety. Despite everything, Grete has not lost her trust in humans. She is friendly, calm, and balanced. For her age, she is still fit and enjoys walks as much as she does lazy sunlit hours. A home with a garden or yard would certainly please her. Even though Grete is generally familiar with life in the house, a move for her will still be a significant change. She needs people who can give her time to settle in, without placing expectations on her. With patience and loving companionship, she will adapt well.

About Grete

What life with Grete looks like

Grete is a large senior rottweiler dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Grete, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Grete?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Grete on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Grete if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Grete already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Grete isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Grete and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
