Adopt Sunny

Rottweiler · Male · Young · 2 years

Neutered male dog, born 2024, height: 60cm | weight: 30kg children: see text | cats: unknown | dogs: see text vaccinated | microchipped available for adoption This animal can be adopted after sufficient getting to know each other, provided there is a suitable place. » NOE Dog Ownership Law and Competence Regulation » Sunny was found on the street in the evening. He was in a bad condition at that time, because despite his young age he already suffered from HD on both sides and had great pain when moving. We had to make the difficult decision about what would happen to Sunny, because such severe joint problems at this young age are certainly no small matter. We decided to give Sunny the chance for a good life through an operation and we are very glad about it, because Sunny has developed very well since the operation. It now even looks as if he is already walking well with the operation on the "worse" hip and the other hip does not necessarily need to be operated on right now. Of course, it is possible that the second operation may still be needed in Sunny's further development - we can hardly predict that. Sunny likes to walk and is quite well-behaved, but during encounters he is still a bit too excited. However, this can certainly be managed with further training. He is a friendly, open and curious dog who also likes to test his boundaries in a somewhat rebellious way. Sunny is generally not incompatible with other dogs, but his socialization has suffered a little due to the long rest period before and after the operation. He is a bit too enthusiastic, demanding and distant with other dogs. Contact with other dogs is certainly possible with training, but living together with other dogs will definitely require training. Sunny is looking for people who are aware that he has a disability due to HD and will have an impairment in the future. Nevertheless, Sunny enjoys going for walks and wants to be with his humans and do things. However, he is certainly not a dog for sports or heavy exertion. He would naturally benefit in the long run from good muscle building and physiotherapy. Currently, Sunny has built up good muscles with us that support the joints well. Physiotherapy does not mean that you have to rush Sunny to the therapist weekly. Many exercises that he needs for his muscle building and maintenance can be easily integrated into daily life and thus keep him fit and mobile for a long time.

About Sunny

What life with Sunny looks like

Sunny is a large young adult rottweiler cat waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sunny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sunny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sunny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sunny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sunny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sunny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sunny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
