Adopt Guanda

Podenco · Female · Senior · 9 years

Paws Patas Input 24 April 2026: Some dogs carry a story with them that you don't immediately see, but you feel deeply. Guanda is such a dog. She is a sweet older lady, with soft eyes and a calm character. She was once the dog of a hunter, until she was sold to another hunter three years ago. What followed was something no dog deserves: Guanda lived on the street for three years. When we found her, she was extremely thin and hungry. Her small body was tired, but her friendly and gentle spirit was still clearly present. Despite everything she had been through, she remained kind and social. Thanks to her microchip, we were able to trace her original owner. When he heard in what condition Guanda was in, he was completely shocked and deeply sad. Without hesitation, he immediately handed her over to us. He didn't even try to contact the second owner - the only thing that mattered to him was that Guanda would finally be safe. And she is now. Guanda is an incredibly kind and affectionate older lady. She comes to you for cuddles and clearly enjoys attention. On a leash, she walks nicely, calmly and obediently. What touched us the most was her reaction to other dogs. From the moment she was placed with them, she seemed to come back to life. She started running and playing - for a moment it seemed as if she was a young dog again. She really enjoys their company. For Guanda, it would be lovely to live with another social dog, because that makes her bloom even more. But she can also do fine as the only dog, as long as she gets enough love and attention. After everything she has been through, Guanda deserves just one thing: a warm, safe home where she can finally be herself... and loved every day.

Guanda is zo’n hond.

About Guanda

What life with Guanda looks like

Guanda is a small senior podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Guanda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Guanda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Guanda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Guanda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Guanda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Guanda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Guanda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
