How do I contact the shelter about Gustav?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gustav on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Gustav if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Gustav already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Gustav isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gustav and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Gustav

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

♂, born ca. 11/2021 affectionate, friendly, playfulin Spain Gustav is a ca. 4.5-year-old Labrador-mixed breed with a shoulder height of 53 cm. He once had a family with whom he lived in the house. Somewhere along the line, the family moved out of the town and left Gustav behind, alone, without food, water, or affection. Occasionally, neighbors would give him a little to eat, but of course, that wasn't enough, and the once handsome, strong male dog became thinner and thinner. The neighbors then called a loving animal rescuer from the nearby area, who runs a small private animal shelter and told her about Gustav's plight. She made her way to the abandoned house, and Gustav was very happy that someone had come. He let himself be led out of the garden without a problem and was immediately ready to follow the animal rescuer to the car. At the animal shelter, Gustav shows himself to be a very affectionate and gentle dog who loves to play and likes children. Thus, he would be the ideal family dog who could also move in with an existing only dog, as he gets along well with fellow animals. Cats should not live in the new home. Gustav travels vaccinated and neutered to Germany. He unfortunately tested positive for leishmaniasis, but his titer is in a very low range, and he was immediately put on the appropriate medication. Gustav is currently in a private animal shelter in Sevilla, Spain. The adoption fee for Gustav is 460 Euro. Would you like to give Gustav a home? About Gustav

What life with Gustav looks like

Gustav is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.
