Gustav

Mixed Breed Cat · Male

Personality:My name is Gustav. I came into the shelter and was understandably very frightened. I unfortunately missed out on my key socialisation period with people due to coming from a busy household. I am learning at a slower pace so therefore I can be worried by close interactions with my carers. I do enjoy playing with many of the toys I have and I can play independently or with my carers. I’d be grateful to find a home where my new family can respect my boundaries and watch my personality grow. Behaviour:I am often a shy boy to begin with. I take a minute to observe my surroundings and then my confidence shines through. I run around, chase after toys and sometimes find my carers shoe laces to tug at. I am lots of fun to be around as I have lots of energy to burn off and need mental and physical stimulation to keep me busy. Although I currently hide away from hands on attention from my carers, with the right environment, I may open up to my new family. If you think you have an accepting and no pressure approach then I might be the one for you. Housing:I get easily spooked when out exploring the cattery floor and will run back to my unit where I feels safe, so for this reason I will need my own unused room to initially settle in before exploring the rest of the property, and eventually a garden. I would love for my room to be situated downstairs in the property such as a dining room/ alternative similar options, so that when I am ready, I have easy outside access. My carers onsite are currently carrier training me so that I can be transported easier. I cannot be homed in Fareham Po16 area. Children/pets:I am looking for an adult only household with no other cats or dogs, to give me the best chance to settle well in my new home. Vet history:Gustav is neutered, microchipped, flea, wormed and fully vaccinated. Gustav has no known medical conditions. 4 weeks free pet insurance included with adoption. Adoption fee:The adoption fee is £120. If you would like to make an additional donation over and above the adoption fee, this would be hugely appreciated. Additional information:All rented and leasehold properties will require written consent from the property owner or agent. This needs to be in place before completing an application form. If your application is successful, staff will request a copy.We reserve the right to remove a reserve at any stage of the adoption process if we believe it is in the best interest of the cat.Adopters should consider that previous medical conditions will now not be covered by insurance. About Gustav

What life with Gustav looks like

Gustav is a adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gustav, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gustav?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gustav on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gustav if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gustav already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gustav isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gustav and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
