Haka

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Handsome Haka is a magnificent, 7 year old Leonberger gent and is a big, soft soul who is now looking for a peaceful, forever home to enjoy his golden years. He's currently located in Essex under the care of All Animals Rescue and Rehome . Haka is neutered, microchipped and flea/worm treated. Haka truly embodies everything people love about this wonderful breed: gentle, loyal and incredibly affectionate. Like many Leonbergers, Haka has a calm and steady nature. He is devoted to his people and thrives on companionship, often choosing to be close by your side rather than causing any mischief. He has a kind, intuitive temperament and takes life at a slower, more relaxed pace these days. Don’t let his size fool you, he is a true gentle giant who just wants love and comfort. Haka enjoys his walks, although he doesn’t need anything too strenuous. A couple of steady strolls and time to potter about will suit him perfectly. He walks nicely on the lead and is happy to take in the world at his own pace. True to his breed, he is intelligent and eager to please, making him a lovely companion to have around. At home, Haka is quiet and well-mannered. He will happily settle down for a snooze but is always ready for a fuss or a cuddle when offered. He would love a home where someone is around for much of the day, as he truly enjoys company and being part of the family. As an older boy, Haka is looking for a quieter home where he can relax and be cherished. He would do best with older children who understand how to be gentle and respectful around a senior dog of his size. Haka is generally good with other dogs, especially those who are calm and respectful like him. However, due to his age and gentle nature, he would be best suited either as the only dog in the home or with another older, laid-back companion after calm introduction. His suitability with cats is currently unknown. Haka travels well in the car, is non-destructive and can be left for short periods. Most of all, he is a loyal and loving companion who will reward his new family with endless affection and quiet companionship. He will make a truly special addition to the right home as a devoted best friend who asks for very little but gives so much in return. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ If you think you could offer this beautiful gentle giant the loving retirement he deserves, please contact All Animals Rescue and Rehome below: Email: for more information or a Pre-Adoption form. Please mention that you saw Haka on Oldies Club website.

About Haka

What life with Haka looks like

Haka is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Haka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Haka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Haka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Haka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Haka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Haka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Haka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
