Adopt Hamster-Großeinsatz

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

Recently, we received a request from Eva Rogler of our friendly animal shelter in Selb, whether we could help with a special case. In July of this year, the district veterinary office in Troisdorf near Cologne seized more than 3,000 hamsters and 200 birds from an illegal transport, which had to be distributed to aid stations throughout Germany in the following days. Several hundred hamsters came to the Mäusea-Asyl in Dachau, from where the Selb animal shelter wanted to take in and place some. Of course, we agreed to support this and launched an appeal. We found four end locations for the small rodents in a short time and provided two foster homes. Unfortunately, at the same time, another mega-emergency arose with over 7,000 seized animals in Amberg, and once again, it is a matter of showing solidarity in animal protection and offering help. By taking in small animals on our foster homes and providing placement assistance, we can at least alleviate the burden on the involved animal shelters to some extent. On Thursday, October 19, 2017, the hamster transport finally got underway, and Eva Rogler drove with a total of 15 animals from Munich to Selb. In Bayreuth, we had arranged for the handover of our hamsters. The little Dzungarian hybrids, all female, had survived the trip well so far and were already received by their new owners as well as the foster home supervisors. Even a press photographer accompanied the action, as the Nordbayerischer Kurier wants to report on it next week. Our two adoption animals will soon be presented on our adoption page and can then be met at the foster homes upon arrangement.

About Hamster-Großeinsatz

What life with Hamster-Großeinsatz looks like

Hamster-Großeinsatz is a small senior mixed breed animal waiting at Tierhilfe Weidenberg in Germany.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Hamster-Großeinsatz far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hamster-Großeinsatz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hamster-Großeinsatz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Weidenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hamster-Großeinsatz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hamster-Großeinsatz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Weidenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hamster-Großeinsatz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hamster-Großeinsatz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Weidenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hamster-Großeinsatz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
