Hansi

Male

I am Hansi, a curious rabbit who was found in a cardboard box - apparently abandoned and very neglected. I'm now looking for a new home where I can thrive. I enjoy special treats and am shy around people at first, but if you take your time and don't rush me, I'll even grab some parsley from your hand. With other rabbits, I'm very submissive and still quite timid. My health is unremarkable. It seems my diet wasn't too balanced in the past, as I struggle with most wild herbs and stick to what I know. But I'm always trying new things and expanding my menu. I need a home with plenty of space to hop and dig, tunneling opportunities, and a well-balanced diet. Most importantly, I need friendly rabbit companions who can show me everything there is to know about a happy bunny life! Will you give me a chance? If so, please get in touch! If you're interested in our animals, we invite you to visit us during our adoption hours at the animal shelter.

About Hansi

What life with Hansi looks like

Hansi is a adult rabbit waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hansi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hansi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hansi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hansi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hansi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hansi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hansi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
