Haps

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Haps arrived at our shelter from the municipality of Mosina as a stray. Everything points to the fact that he previously lived with people, but his fiery temperament proved to be a challenge for them to handle. Today, we are looking for responsible and willing caregivers for a quick-witted, active dog. Haps is a Jack Russell terrier-type dog – which means he has a high energy level, a great need for activity, and a wonderful learning potential. He quickly adapts to new behaviors, willingly cooperates with humans, and responds well to clear rules. He loves having a task – scent work, retrieving, training elements, or longer walks bring him great satisfaction. In his first interactions, he may be cautious and distant. He needs time to assess the situation and feel safe. Once he trusts, he becomes a dog strongly focused on relationships – he seeks contact, willingly stays close to the caregiver, and clearly derives joy from working together. He excels at finding his place in travel – he travels calmly by car and enthusiastically participates in trips and long walks. This is a dog who will be an excellent companion for an active lifestyle. Due to his high level of stimulation and sensitivity to stimuli, living in a tight urban center might be too stressful for him. He will find his best home in a house with access to calmer walking areas and with caregivers who will provide him with both movement and mental work. We are looking for a family for Haps who are active, consistent, and ready to build a relationship with him based on understanding and cooperation. This is a dog with great potential – properly guided, he will become a loyal, wise, and incredibly engaged companion.

Haps to pies w typie jack russell terriera - a to oznacza wysoki poziom energii, dużą potrzebę aktywności i świetny potencjał do nauki. Potrzebuje chwili, by ocenić sytuację i poczuć się bezpiecznie.

About Haps

What life with Haps looks like

Haps is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Haps, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Haps?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Haps on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Haps if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Haps already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Haps isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Haps and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
