Harry

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 3 years

Harry is seeking a loving, appropriate home. We are reluctantly seeking a new, loving home for our approximately one-year-old male degu, Harry, where he can again have permanent degu companionship. Unfortunately, Harry is currently living alone. We have a total of three degus, which have unfortunately completely fallen out with each other. After we had to separate Harry, the other two now live peacefully together. We have tried twice since April to re-socialize the three boys - unfortunately without success. Since we do not want to subject him to a life as a single degu in the long term, we have reluctantly decided to look for him a new home. Harry is healthy and was last examined by a veterinarian in August. He has no dental problems. He is a very curious, attentive and sweet little fellow who likes to explore his surroundings and observes everything carefully. He needs some time to gain trust in people. We wish for Harry a home where he gets matching degu companionship again. It is particularly important to us that he does not just get somewhere, but finds people who give him the time he needs and give him a permanent, appropriate home. We are also happy to "drive out" for him. Harry will be placed for a small deposit and with a transfer agreement. We look forward to your messages. Note from DHS: Since Harry is currently in the rebellious phase, we recommend socializing with an animal that has already passed the rebellious phase, aged 2.5 to 3.5 years. Further information on the rebellious phase can be found in our information sheet:

About Harry

What life with Harry looks like

Harry is a small adult mixed breed animal waiting at Deguhilfe Süd e.V. in Obermichelbach.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Harry far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Harry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Harry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Deguhilfe Süd e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Harry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Harry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Deguhilfe Süd e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Harry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Harry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Deguhilfe Süd e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Harry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
