Hatty

Dachshund · Female · Adult · 7 years

30-09-26 Hatty originally came to us from a breeder, and was adopted for a period of time, and was sadly returned to our care due to her adopter becoming unwell. She managed a recent vet visit incredibly well considering how worried she can be, allowing the vet to examine her and administer her vaccinations while she was safely cuddled in her blanket. We know that the right home for Hatty is out there, and that with someone who truly understands her, she can form an incredibly special bond.Hatty is a very worried little lady who has come such a long way since arriving with us. She finds human interaction incredibly stressful and can still be very timid and defensive when she feels she is going to be handled. However, she has made some lovely progress in her foster home and is showing us that, with the right person and plenty of patience, she can learn to feel safe. Hatty will still need a blanket to help her feel comfortable when she needs to be picked up, and she can become frightened enough to toilet herself when she is worried about being handled. Once she is safely settled, she will allow gentle strokes around her face, head and back, although she is not comfortable with her feet being touched. Her foster home has found that she is happiest when she is given plenty of space and allowed to approach things at her own pace. Hatty absolutely loves other dogs and is particularly happy around other Dachshunds. She gets very excited to see her dog friends and enjoys being around them, so she will need a confident resident dog in her new home who can help her feel safe and show her the ropes. She enjoys having a cosy space of her own to retreat to, but also loves being able to relax on the sofa alongside the other dogs. Hatty is very treat motivated and will happily come over for treats, which is a lovely way for her adopters to build a positive relationship with her. She is content plodding around, observing what is going on and enjoying the company of her canine friends. She can be destructive if left alone, so her adopters will need to be prepared for this and ensure she has plenty of safe things to occupy her. Hatty will need a very special home with adopters who have experience with ex-breeding dogs and understand just how frightening the world can feel for her. She will need a quiet, adult-only home with someone who is around most of the time and who can give her the time and space she needs without placing expectations on her. She will need gentle handling and continued support with things such as toilet training and lead training, although walks may not be something she becomes comfortable with. Hatty is not going to be an easy dog to rehome, but she is a very special and frightened girl who deserves someone willing to see past her worries. With a confident canine companion, a quiet home and an adopter who can give her the time and patience she needs, we believe Hatty can continue to flourish and discover just how lovely life can be. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Hatty

What life with Hatty looks like

Hatty is a adult dachshund dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hatty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hatty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hatty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hatty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hatty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hatty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hatty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
