Hector

Cocker Spaniel Β· Male Β· Senior Β· 9 years

An 11-year-old English Cocker Spaniel. And yes... I have reached the age where I can officially say I'm retiring. πŸ˜ŽπŸŽ“ Due to distance, I ended up in a shelter. Not exactly my favorite retirement plan, so I'm now looking for a warm, cozy bed where I can spend my remaining years quietly and comfortably. ❀️ I'm used to living indoors and I'd really like to go back to that. I'm also housebroken, so my future owners don't have to worry about that. πŸ˜‰ I can get along with older children. I actually like that, because that way I know my boundaries will be respected. I'm a senior with some life experience and I know what I like and don't like. 😏 I can also meet other dogs. I've lived with cats too. I can stay home alone, although I have to admit I prefer it when my people are around. A little company during my retirement doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.

About Hector

What life with Hector looks like

Hector is a senior cocker spaniel dog waiting at Dierenasiel Ninove in Ninove.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺAdopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hector, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hector?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Ninove handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hector on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hector if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dierenasiel Ninove will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hector already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hector isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Ninove early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hector and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
