Mutlu

Cocker Spaniel · Female · Young · 3 years

English Cocker Spaniel, born 01-07-2023 Other characteristics: surgery needed on left kneecap (patella luxation) Can live with dogs: yes Can live with cats: ? Can live in an apartment: no, house with garden Can live with children: yes, 12+ When we found her, she was roaming free. We went looking for her home and what we found broke our hearts. She lived in a dirty, enclosed garden, with no fresh water or food. There were piles of dog food on the ground, but no real food bowl. Drinking bowls were empty and dirty, there was feces and hardly a place where she could take shelter. Her coat was full of knots, she was infested with fleas and she had a wound on her hind leg. And yet she was incredibly friendly to us. She is a young girl of about three years old, cheerful, people-oriented and extremely happy when someone pays attention to her. When she sees people, her tail starts wagging. She likes to seek contact, jumps up on the sofa and prefers to give kisses on your face. A ball? She becomes completely happy from that! She runs after it full speed, proudly takes it and sometimes even comes up on your lap. She loves to sniff, play and of course... food. A lot of food. But under that cheerful girl is also a dog that still has to learn what rest, safety and trust mean. She can be quite restless and sometimes finds it difficult to calm herself down. And then there is her knee... Her examination showed that she has patellaluxation on her left knee. To give her the chance to live pain-free and comfortable, surgery on her left knee is highly recommended. The estimated cost is around €1,200. And that is exactly why we are looking for someone who not only wants to give her a home, but also a real second chance. Someone who looks beyond her past. Someone who wants to guide her and teach her the rest she needs so badly. Someone who is willing to go through the process of her knee surgery and recovery with her. Because look at her... 🥺 Despite everything she has been through, she still wants to play. Still wants to cuddle. Still wants to be with you. Still wants trust. She deserves a life where her biggest worries are which ball she will choose and on which sofa she can take a nap today. Interested in adopting her or learning more about her? Please contact us.

About Mutlu

What life with Mutlu looks like

Mutlu is a young adult cocker spaniel dog waiting at Dierenasiel Genk in Genk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mutlu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mutlu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Genk handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mutlu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mutlu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Genk will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mutlu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mutlu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Genk early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mutlu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
