Hector

Male · Young · 1 year

A communicative male guinea pig is urgently in need of a new home with female company and that right now! The shelter staff should please say that. It would make a better impression on the ladies. (They are already laughing at my name... who names a guinea pig Hector... only the shelter management can come up with such strange ideas...) PLEASE!! Better? I am already a very polite little guy. I never complain, I behave myself, I always greet the caregivers with a cheerful "Good morning" when they open the door. Especially the ones from the fridge with the vegetables in it... I don't "sweep" around, you don't have to clean three times a day... So I'm actually a decent young man. I'm not ugly either, at least the shelter management said I look funny/cute. They wouldn't say that if it wasn't true... or? In my new home I would like to have space to run around and hide. I'd love to have grass under my feet. The enclosure should be 2 square meters per guinea pig nose. That doesn't sound so difficult to me. If you have one (or more) female guinea pigs who would be happy with a friendly, well-mannered roommate... I wouldn't say no. PS: Male guinea pigs are not allowed in the new home. That always causes trouble and fighting among the men... and nobody wants that. Not me. Animal adoptions are currently only by appointment. We ask you to contact us in advance by phone at 05481/4146 or by e-mail if you are interested in one of our animals.

Also eigentlich ein manierlicher junger Mann.

About Hector

What life with Hector looks like

Hector is a young adult animal waiting at Tierheim Tecklenburger Land in Lengerich.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Hector far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hector, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hector?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tecklenburger Land handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hector on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hector if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tecklenburger Land will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hector already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hector isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tecklenburger Land early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hector and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
