Fred

Jack Russell Terrier Β· Male Β· Young Β· 2 years

Fred is our 2-year-old pocket rocket Jack Russell Terrier looking for a forever home that can match his energy. This lovely boy is friendly with people but his favourite thing to do is play with his toys. Fred loves getting stuck in with enrichment and has endless amounts of energy so he would fit right into an active home keen to get stuck in with his training. Fred would make the perfect adventure buddy for quiet countryside walks as he has no issues jumping into the car and happily wears his muzzle while exploring. In his previous home, he was housetrained and slept overnight with no issues, he loved to spend time in the garden sitting in the sun and playing with his toys. Fred is looking for a dedicated adult only home that are happy to take on a project, committing to his ongoing training. He's best suited to being the only pet in the home, but he has more than enough love to give all by himself! Whilst he has had some friendly interactions with other dogs, Fred will benefit from continuing work around his social skills as he is conflicted and reactive towards them, being overwhelmed when he sees them from quite a distance away. Due to this, Fred would like access to a private secure garden so he can zoom around with his toys, this will be especially important as Fred should be kept on his lead and muzzled when out and about. Fred would suit a home that has access to quiet walks away from highly dog populated areas and away from busy main roads. Fred would love for his new family to be around most of the time to begin with, building up his time left alone slowly as he settles in.

About Fred

What life with Fred looks like

Fred is a young adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Manchester in Manchester.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fred, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fred?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Manchester handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fred on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fred if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Manchester will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Fred already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fred isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Manchester early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fred and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
