Heidi

Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten · 4 months

Heidi could live with children of any age. She could potentially live with other cats and will require outdoor access. Heidi is a lovely young girl who didn’t take long to settle in here at the shelter. She loves having an explore of our cattery and having attention from our staff and volunteers – purring away as soon as we stroke her! She also enjoys playing with catnip toys. Heidi arrived at the shelter with the rest of her litter, she was housed with one of her brothers, but unfortunately, he became quite rough towards her and so we’ve had to separate them. Prior to this, Heidi seemed to really enjoy the company of another cat, they would often follow each other around exploring together and Heidi tries to interact with other cats, so we feel she would potentially love to have another cat sibling in her forever home. Heidi was a little shy when she first arrived into our care and can still be easily spooked at times, so she will need a family who can offer her the time and patience she needs whilst she adjusts to her new surroundings and finds her feet. We have no doubt it won’t take her long to settle in and warm up to her new family and begin showing them what a sweet, loving and affectionate little kitten she is. Heidi has truly been a pleasure to have in our care and we can’t wait to see her continue to thrive with the love and care of her forever home as she grows into a happy and healthy adult cat.

About Heidi

What life with Heidi looks like

Heidi is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Heidi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Heidi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Heidi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Heidi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Heidi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Heidi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Heidi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
