adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Her Herz Hund Helios is finally free – after nearly four years in captivity, he begins a new, shining phase of life. His name means the sun or sunlight, and he is more than ready to discover the sunny side of life. His elegant black fur and the white spot on his chest give him a unique appearance, as noble as a black diamond radiating warmth and joy. At about 63 cm tall, he is as big as his heart! From the first day, he opens his heart to his loving foster family, where he arrived in mid-October. There, the handsome male dog blossoms, showing himself to be very loving, friendly, and open to his people. His charming character and friendly nature reveal what a special treasure he is. Despite years of neglect and lack of affection, he gratefully accepts every kind of petting. He enjoys the new experiences and impressions, and there are no signs of fear or overwhelm. He is simply there for his people, and it is beautiful to watch and feel. Initially, Helios shows caution towards strangers, but after eye contact and the okay from his lady, he adapts. Overall, he is very trusting and curious, already at the first meeting, he felt the trust and openness. His simple and friendly nature reflects his harmonious social behavior. He has already met the neighbor's dog and was very interested in her. Even the two cats in the household are accepted, and he shows a friendly, cooperative attitude in handling them. Helios is house-trained from the start, runs well on a leash, and even in new unfamiliar situations, like cars or dog encounters, he reacts calmly and relaxed. He happily accompanies his people everywhere, and even car rides work out problemlessly. He already knows basic commands, waits at the street before crossing, and jumps into the water with joy. Originally, the handsome Helios came from Romania. Since he was simply abandoned by his owner, he had to spend his life in the public shelter in Baia Mare, which is now almost 4 years ago. Helios lost everything he once had: his family, his freedom, his life. But despite his sad past, Helios has preserved his incredibly loving, open, and charming nature. Helios wants to get to know the world – with long walks, shared time with loving people who want to spend many more beautiful years with him, he has more than earned it. An ideal home would be a rural one with plenty of space for our large male dog. He is still young and has so much ahead of him. Helios can be adopted at any time. Helios is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and brings his EU pet passport. Who will give the gentle Helios their heart? Many thanks to Moritz B. You gave Helios his beautiful name and thus a personal identity. Many thanks to Paula K. You have supported Helios with a monthly sponsorship! As of 16.10. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 16.10.2025

About Helios

What life with Helios looks like

Helios is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Helios, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Helios?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Helios on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Helios if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Helios already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Helios isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Helios and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
