Herbie

Doberman · Male · Young · 1 year

Herbie is a fun-loving Dobermann with a cheeky side and a huge enthusiasm for life. He’s the kind of dog who brings energy into every room and makes people smile without trying. He is based at Battersea Old Windsor. He is a young, energetic dog seeking committed new owners that can provide the structure, training, and engagement he needs to thrive. Herbie will suit adopters who understand the needs of a large working breed and who can offer both physical exercise and mental stimulation as part of his daily routine. Frisbees and Footballs are his favourite toys of choice and loves to play fetch and chase them around our secure paddocks. Herbie is looking for his new home to have a private and secure garden to give him space to burn off energy and continue to blossom with his playful side. Herbie is a sociable boy with people and is currently working on positive interactions with other dogs. New owners will need to continue Herbie's training and socialisation during his time at home as this will help him improve his impulse control and reading other dogs body language during interactions. We feel that being the only pet in the household will help Herbie work on this behaviour and allow him to make lots of progress in the home. Herbie will need active owners who can give him the time to settle and continue learning the basics. He’s a bright, bouncy lad who loves to be on the go and playing with his handlers. With consistency and routine, we feel Herbie will make a loyal and joyful addition to the family. Herbie will give you his whole heart in return. About Herbie

What life with Herbie looks like

Herbie is a large young adult doberman dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herbie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herbie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herbie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herbie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herbie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herbie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herbie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
